    INTRODUCTION TO CREATIVE TEXTILE DEVELOPMENT


    PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
    This experimental workshop will suit beginners wishing to explore creative textiles through a hand on approach.

    A large variety of samples, visuals and hands on demonstrations in our new “Textile Lab “will stimulate your creative ideas and over the course of 8 weeks students will learn the basics of fabric manipulation. 

    Covering a wide range of materials and techniques to build up a collection of creative study pieces that could be used as a starting point for their own collection or realized in one of our continuing workshops and made into a tote bag or up-cycled into an existing garment.

    Session 1
    An introduction to the course, showing a wide range of creative fabric samples and a theory session with samples and charts to explain fabric types and fibres to help build students fabric knowledge.

    Sessions 2 & 3
    These 2 sessions will focus on hand manipulation techniques using yarns and covering techniques such as off loom weaving techniques, basic weave structures, dry needle felting, couching etc.

    Sessions 4 & 5
    These sessions will cover the creative uses of wet media, i.e, fabric paints and dyes.
    Demonstrations of stenciling and hand painted backgrounds, tie-dye and shibori methods of applying colour to fabric in a creative way.

    Sessions 6 & 7
    To round off our sampling sessions , we will cover the basics of manipulating fabrics, students will discover techniques such as patchwork, applique , faux chenille and simple hand stitching techniques.

    Session 8
    In our final session we will be preparing the presentations of samples and related images for a portfolio or display board.

    SUPPLIES-MATERIALS
    Most of the materials/tools will be supplied within the course. We have a variety of fabrics and yarns that can be used in the sampling stage, but students will need to purchase their own for larger pieces or select colours.
    Students may wish to purchase their own tools if they wish to continue working on samples at home, any other supplies will be advised by the teacher before the class.

    Anyone and beginners passionate for craftsmanship, wishing to explore creative textiles or designers/crafters wishing to upgrade their textile skills.

    None

    ASSESSMENT

    Continuous assessment and feedback by the teacher will be given during the course.
    Final textile portfolio review.
    After completing Textile Creation Level 1 Student can continue with Level 2 upon final portfolio assessment.

    CERTIFICATION

    ESMOD Dubai Creative Textile Development Level 1 Certificate.
