    DESIGN DIRECTIONS IN CREATIVE TEXTILES SERIES FOR FASHION & INTERIOR DESIGNERS

    Each workshop in the series will feature a different designer/trend and cover a large variety of techniques, materials and recycling in a hands on experience.

    A large variety of samples, visuals and hands on demonstrations in our new Textile Lab will stimulate your creative ideas and over the course of 8 weeks you will explore the process of collecting ideas and developing a mood board and planning, through to making study textile pieces that could be used as a starting point for a collection, up-cycling into an existing garment, accessories customization, interior decoration projects.

    Session 1
    An introduction to the course with a history of the designer focusing on the textiles used in the collections and explanations of techniques that could be used to achieve these effects.

    Session 2
    This will be a research and development session, using visual imagery as well as fabric samples to create a mood board that will be used to inspire for the fabric sampling stage.

    Session 3
    Buying field trip for fabric and notions, discover Dubai’s textile sectors and learn how to buy the right fabrics and notions for your samples.

    Sessions 4-5-6
    These will be the primary fabric sampling sessions where we use our research and mood board to spark ideas to create many samples that will later be analyzed for their fashion potential.
    Some of the techniques that could be used include: Stenciling, Applique, Reverse applique, Quilting, Off loom weaving techniques, Distressing, Patchwork, Dyeing, Origami, Hand embroidery, Mix media collage, Felting etc.

    As this is an advanced course some basic knowledge of techniques is expected, samples will be used in conjunction with each other to push the boundaries of creativity.

    Session 7-8
    Some of the study pieces will be selected to up-cycle into an existing garment or a larger piece for accessories customization. Portfolio textiles samples will be presented in a folder or display board.

    SUPPLIES-MATERIALS
    Some of the materials/tools will be supplied within the course, but students will need to purchase their own for larger pieces or select colours as well as tools to complete their project.
    It is advisable that students have a basic sewing kit and a selection of fabric, yarns, notions etc.
    These can be purchased on the shopping trip under the guidance of the teacher. 
  • WHO IS THE COURSE FOR
    Individual with a creative background with some knowledge of textiles and techniques. Students having completed Textile Creation Level 1. Fashion & Interior Designers.

    ASSESSMENT

    Continuous assessment and feedback by the teacher will be given during the course.
    Final textile portfolio review.

    CERTIFICATION

    ESMOD Dubai Creative Textile Development Level 2 Certificate.
